Sad Boutahar is a product of the Feyenoord youth academy. He joined the club from Excelsior. After failing to make impact when having just two appearances for the A team in the 2001-02 season, he returned to Excelsior. With spells at RKC, NEC and Willem II he moved abroad.

In September 2010, Sad Boutahar has signed a 1-year contract with an option for another season at Spanish side Real Zaragoza. He came from Willem II on a free transfer after being released from his contract. The option was not used at the end of the 2010-11 season and Boutahar became available on a free transfer.

In August 2011 Boutahar moved to Qatar to sign a contract at Al Wakrah. He replaced fellow Dutchman Anouar Diba at the club. During the summer 2012 transfer period, he moved to Umm Salal, also in the Qatari League.

Boutahar rejoined his former club Al Wakrah in January 2014. In the summer of 2014 Said Boutahar signed a one-year deal at another club in Qatar, Al-Shamal. He retired at the end of his contract from professional football.
