|Sergio van Kanten is a talented young player who has both a Dutch as well as an American passport. He was born in Florida and also started football (soccer) playing in the US. In 2002, Van Kanten moved to Europe to play in the youth team of Middlesbrough in England. Just a season later, he played his first spell in the Netherlands at the reserves of Volendam. The traveller moved furthermore to Portugal and Belgium before he returned home to the US.
Van Kanten was in the 2007 season under contract at Miami FC, where he played in the first team that acts in the USL First Division.
After that season he took a brief hiatus from the professional leagues. In 2015, Van Kanten returned to the pitch to lead Miami Dade FC as its captain to the semi-finals of the American Premier Soccer League Championship. He will be continuing his South Florida soccer career in 2016 with Miami FC to proudly represent his hometown’s NASL team for its inaugural season.
