Mounir El Hamdaoui
|Birthdate:||July 14, 1984 in Rotterdam|
|Former club(s):||Al-Taawoun (SAr), Umm Salal SC (Qat), AZ, Fiorentina (Ita), Malaga CF (Spa), Fiorentina (Ita), Ajax, AZ, Willem II, Derby County (Eng), Tottenham Hotspur (Eng), Excelsior|
|El Hamdaoui joined the Premier League in January 2005. With minimal first team opportunities, he joined Derby County on a 3-months loan deal in September 2005. His season at Derby County lasted until the end. He scored three times in eight matches but suffered for a long time from injuries.
Mounir had terrible luck in terms of injuries - typified by dislocating his shoulder during what was a promising loan spell in the Championship with Derby last season - and wanted to return to Holland to sign for Willem II.
After one season, he moved to AZ in August 2007. He signed a contract until 2012. His second season in Alkmaar was the most successful in his career winning the league with AZ, being the top scorer of the league with 23 goals and winning the Dutch football player of the year award.
On 30 July 2010 he finally signed a 4-year contract at Ajax Amsterdam after days of uncertainty. His first season seemed to be successful. However since the Ajax coach swap to Frank de Boer, he had troubles with his coach. On April 24 2011 he played his final match. In summer 2011 he was send to the Reserves and was allowed a transfer away. Not agreeing a contract at a new club, he continued at the Ajax Reserves and was never been selected by coach De Boer in the first selection anymore.
Finally in July 2012 Italian side Fiorentina freed El Hamdaoui from his Amsterdam contract. They signed the striker until 2015 and paid Ajax around one million euro. In the 2013-14 season, El Hamdaoui played on loan for Spanish side Malaga CF. In his final contract season, he played just a few matches for the A-selection before being released from his contract.
El Hamdaoui returned to AZ in September 2015 to keep in shape and train at the club. In October 2015 AZ offered him a contract for the rest of the season, because they were very impressed with the performance at the training of El Hamdaoui. In January 2016 El Hamdaoui left AZ and signed a contract at Umm Salal SC from Qatar. In August he moved to Saudi Arabia to join the club from coach Darije Kalezic who was also player and coach in the Netherlands. El Hamdaoui has signed a 1-year contract at Al-Taawoun. His contract was terminated in January 2017.
Although being born in the Netherlands and having played for the Holland Under-21 side he decided to represent the Morocco national football team, for whom he made his debut in February 2009 in a match against the Czech Republic. Also during his stay at the Ajax Reserves he received call-ups.
