|Ronald Koeman has a glancing football career. He has played for 17 seasons professional football and had won many big prices. He became 8 times league champion, has won 4 times the national cup, twice the now-called Champions League, once the European Supercup and has won in 1988 the European Championship with the Netherlands.
After his player career he tried to start a new career as coach. His first jobs were as assistant at the national team and Barcelona, following as head coach at Vitesse and Ajax. In his first season as Ajax-coach, Ronald Koeman has won both the league and national Cup. He resigned in March 2005 after a row of bad results and loosing commitment.
Koeman tried his luck again in 2006 and returned to Eindhoven to sign as head coach for the club he has left once as player. In his first season, the successor of Guus Hiddink ended with the championship trophy and having reached the Champions League quarter-finals. Before the final match day of the 2006-2007 season, PSV had minimal chances to win the championship and Koeman was set to get fired. However with bad luck from their opponents, victory was close and the third championship of PSV in row was won. Afterwards, Koeman and the board of PSV came to an agreement to continue his 2-year contract.
However, just a few month later he decided to move immediately to Spain where he was offered a job as head coach of Valencia CF. He has left his club PSV in trouble looking for a new coach in a short term.
In April 2008 Koeman was sacked as coach of Valencia after just a half season. He continued as a TV pundit looking for new managing opportunities. He was appointed as coach of Feyenoord in July 2011.
Ronald his brother Erwin is also a well-known former professional football player who also continued his football career as a manager.
